Well, we’ve been turned down for our farm loan.  It’s not a big surprise really with all that is going on out there in the financial industry.  Loans have just dried up.  So what that means for us is that we will just slow down alittle bit in our plans and do more of the work ourselves.  I am also trying to sell some more things.  I put the calf bins back on Craigslist and made $30, whoopee!!!!!.  I also put the engine analyzer on, but not too optimistic on that (picture below).  RJ is going to be more aggressive in getting the plane sold.  We’re still on target for opening at Thanksgiving; we just have to be careful to not over spend so we can pay our bills.

Bad Luck

Sometimes, it seems if we didn’t have bad luck, we wouldn’t have any luck at all.  It’s not that bad really but our timing sure sucks.  As I’ve written, I am trying to drum up some new financing.  And with all that is going on with the finance industry and markets, you might say my timing is alittle off.  But we have some interim options to tie us over, so all is not lost and rumor has it, our winery/farm is worth alot more than we thought.  The second thing is the contract work.  The electrical company that has been doing our electrical work in the tasting room had a van and office fire, so they have not been out this week as planned.  Fortunately, they will only be delayed a week.  On a positive note, the beam is up replacing the wall that was taken down and the plumbing is proceeding.  Joyce and Henry have been doing small odd jobs.  We created a list of things that needed to be around and it is 3 pages long.  I have to share this picture of the four farming musketeers, ready to go work on the farm.  They are RJ, Russell, Jim and Roger (left to right).  Could not have got the irrigation in without them.

Plumbing, etc.

There has been alot of activity on the plumbing in the tasting room building.  The plumbing is in for the utility room and progress has been made on the drains and the tasting room sink.  Unfortunately, there have been a few issues, but what can I expect from a house that is 50+ years old and has had several add-ons.  And there are several new and large holes in the concrete.  Everyone tells me these can be filled in without any problem, but we’ll see.  The other construction, beam, door, walls is not happening; not sure what to do about that.  I did some staining of the inside of the bar and it looks great; needs another coat.  I have also been working on financing, advertisement and things like shirts, all that seem minor but are necessary in the long run.  We also bottled our 2007 Estate Pinot Noir and 2007 Pinot Gris.  We will bottle the Barrel Select Pinot and Chardonnay this Saturday.  Pictures include the plumbing and holes.  Things are relatively back to normal, so I will be updating the BLOG more regularly.

Pounding the Pavement

I have been busy trying to come up with funding to replace our equity loan until it can be reinstated.  I have managed to come up with enough money to get us over the hump.  We are targetting Thanksgiving for our opening.  We may not be completely ready but we will make due.  I have also been working on our scrapbook, so visitors can see the evolution.  RJ ordered a new camera for me to replace the one I missplaced.  I know it will turn up but I miss it terribly.  Our grapes here at the house are ripening rapidly.  We will be doing our 2007 bottling in mid-September.  If you have some free time, we’ll take the help.  I did another pouring last week and have been selling wine to friends.  Also, I have been putting together ad copy for the Thanksgiving opening.  Lots of little things going on.  Oh yeah, RJ sent me some “before” pictures of the tasting room building.  It is amazing how far it has come.

I’m Back with Building Permits in Hand

Our company has left, weddings are over, our social events have tapered off, so I am back to blogging again.  My biggest news is that as of Thursday, August 28, we have our building permits.  It was a long, hard struggle, but we have them, and it’s full steam ahead.  But wait…a new hurdle!  We just received notice that we can no longer access our Home Equity Account; the one we were counting on to pay some of the contractors we have engaged and will be engaging.  So I am back pounding the pavement looking at other financing options.  I have a few ideas up my sleeve, but none have come to fruition yet.  On a happier note, I received the base pages for my scrapbook from Charlene last week and have finished one page with another well on the way.  These will go faster as I move through the book.  However, I have managed to misplace my camera (see what happens when you get a smaller purse), so pictures are going to be few and far between.  The plumber is working today in the tasting room, sooner than we expected.  Much of the irrigation is in thanks to Russell, Roger, Jim and Henry.  Russell was like “a dog on a bone” wanting to get at that vineyard and they accomplished alot.  We’ve had our share of tractor issues and may be upgrading soon (oh yeah, that money thing again).  We’re doing another tasting tonight at Urban Decanter for First Wednesday.  That will be a relief.  Pictures are of the irrigation and drain work and our Big 0 Birthday bash.
